Where it
All Began

Beach Box started in 2015 as a fun family run café on Polzeath beach. Owner Dean envisioned a small project to support the local community. Providing jobs, a social space, opportunities for young people and sustenance for surfers, all year round.

After many challenging yet successful years overcoming the odd hurdle or two, we have now opened 4 cafes in some of the most beautiful and popular spots across North Cornwall. We are proud to serve you delicious food and drink at Polzeath, Harlyn Bay, Mawgan Porth & Wadebridge Camel Trail.

Our History

Our Polzeath Beach Box originated in 2015 and started from a tiny shipping container selling a small selection of goodies and has grown to a considerably larger space in the beach car park. Interestingly, both our Mawgan Porth (opened in 2016) and Camel Trail (opened in 2018) cafes were saved from ‘inconvenient’ closure as public toilet buildings.

Imagine a beach or the Camel Trail with no loo facilities! In both locations we saved the loos and reconfigured the buildings to include cafes. At Harlyn we opened our fourth Beach Box café in the Harlyn Bay’s hillside carpark during Easter 2020 and haven’t looked back.

Our Enviroment

The local community is at the heart of Beach Box and one of the reasons why we are open all year round! In the summer the cafes are the place to be providing the holiday vibes to all with an array of delicious menu items, including smoothie bowls and overnight oats to pasties and sausage rolls paired with a well-crafted coffee. In the winter, we’re the reliable heart of our community for our locals, providing them high quality food and drink to satisfy their outdoor hunger.

Every day we strive to do better. Most importantly, being mainly at the beach, we strongly believe in a clean and safe marine environment and supporting and contributing to this effort. Co-owner Kerensa has such strong feelings on this subject that at Polzeath she worked alongside the Beach Rangers in forming Polzeath Together, a community organisation working to keep the beach enjoyable and safe for all.

Supporting Local

All our cafes accept Pard Card, if you’re a true Cornish maid or jacker you’ll know what we are on about! It is a local’s only discount card set up by Jam & Meme to help people local to Cornwall make savings across many great Cornish businesses. Use your Pard Card to get 10% off your purchase at any of our cafes, excluding alcohol at our Harlyn café and airstream.

We work with The Southwest Coast Path Association to support their charitable mission to look after the UK’s longest 630 mile and best-loved National Trail giving everyone access to exercise, relax, and reflect in nature.

Beach Box are proud ‘waymakers’ and our Harlyn, Mawgan Porth, and Polzeath locations are all ‘stamping points’ for the Coast Path Passport. Be sure to get this stamped whilst treating yourself to a delectable choice from our menu.

All our cafes offer a locals discount to value your Cornish custom, visit your nearest Beach Box today or send us a message to find out if you qualify!

Our state-of-the-art kitchen located in St Minver is the hub of our operation. Our talented team of chefs prepare and cook-up the delights that we serve from our cafes.

During the busy summer months our teams work from very early in the morning and late into the night to bring you a range of fresh meals and snacks. As the year quietens a little, they continue to produce your favourite Beach Box goodies alongside coming up with and testing new items for our ever-evolving and innovative menus and cook-outs.

Where we can, we source our ingredients locally, working with the likes of –Phillip Warrens, Wings of St Mawes, J&R, EstuaryDa Bara Bakery and Malcom Barnecutts – always making sure to be using the best quality products available.

Check out our menu pages for our staple offerings which include a great range of breakfast, lunch, and snack goodies as well as our home-made scrumptious Bucca Gelato.

We have an extended menu at Harlyn which is also prepared in our on-site kitchen, and we now offer special cook-outs, all dreamt up and prepared from here – look at our cook-out page to see what is coming up and get your tastebuds tingling.

We actively focus on the packaging we use, the places we source from, reducing our carbon footprint, giving everyone the opportunity for work, providing jobs all year round, developing our menu, wastage, and training to do our bit here at Beach Box!

We utilise Vegware, Edenware and Enviroware as our packaging needs to focus on sustainable solutions for takeaway packaging in all our cafes.

We’ve also partnered with Too Good To Go for our food waste. Food waste is responsible for 10% of greenhouse gas emissions, 2.5 billion tonnes of food yearly is wasted and costs $1.2 trillion every year so by working with Too Good To Go we are working hard for a zero waste goal, find out more on what they do here.

Every staff member is equipped with knowledge, qualifications, and training to support a fruitful future, with opportunities for all. All our employees are barista trained with the fabulous team at Cornico to develop their knowledge of coffee and expand their barista skills.

Hygiene, allergens, and safety are essential and something we constantly prioritise here at Beach Box, with all employees having certificates in Level 2 Food Hygiene & Safety for Catering and Food Allergen Awareness. We strongly believe in investing in our team members to constantly improve.
